This week's learning is split into days:

Maths

Have a go at the maths colour you find the most comfortable doing. 

Red is the hardest, Blue is easier and Green is the easiest. 

Watch the videos then answer the questions from the uploaded worksheets. *Not all days have video links.

 

Red

Day 1: Fractions greater than 1

Day 2: Improper fractions to mixed numbers

Day 3: Mixed numbers to improper fractions

Day 4: Number sequences

Day 5: Big Maths : set a timer for 100 seconds. Answer as many questions as you can in that time. Then check your answers before continuing to answer the remainder of the questions. 

Retrieval practice: Complete the Red Place Value Booklet. The answers are on the last page.

 

Blue

 Day 1: Equivalent fractions

Day 2: Fractions greater than 1

Day 3: Count in fractions

Day 4: Fractions on a number line

Day 5: Big Maths: set a timer for 60 seconds. Answer as many questions as you can in that time. Check your answers then answer the remainder of the questions. 

Retrieval practice: Complete the Blue Place Value Booklet. The answers are on the last page.

 

Green

Day 1: Find a quarter

Day 2: Recognise a third

Day 3: Find a third

Day 4: Unit fractions

Day 5: Big Maths: set a timer for 90 seconds. Answer as many questions as you can in this time. Then check your answers before continuing to answer the remainder of the questions. 

Retrieval practice: Complete the Green Place Value Booklet. The answers are on the last page.

 

Reading:

For this week's reading, there are a variety of activities for you to choose from.

Day 1: Spelling pattern work - see uploaded sheets  to look up the meaning of the words and Look, Cover, Say, Write, Check

  • Spelling Patterns A - adding the suffix -ious and -eous 
  • Spelling Pattern B - hyphens

Day 2: Chapter 3  - CLICK HERE to listen to Chapter 3 being read and/or read the uploaded copy, then answer the comprehension questions.

Day 3: Where did Michael and his family travel around the world?  Use the information in Chapter 3 to record where they visited.  Also, complete the uploaded task. 

Day 4: CLICK HERE to listen to the end of Chapter 3 and the beginning of Chapter 4 being read and / or read the uploaded copy.  LESSON STARTER Record Michael's thoughts and feelings during this section of the book. Summarise on a story board the main events.

Day 5: LESSON STARTER Use the planning from yesterday to write in role as Michael.  Remember to include before and after falling in the water.

This is a previous child's writing. The tense is a little mixed, however, they use examples from the book well. Their next step would be to write another paragraph to describe being in the sea. Following that, they would need to edit and improve their work - authors never publish first drafts!

Art

Monday: LESSON STARTER Use the uploaded sheet (Improving Pencil Control) to help you develop your drawing skills.

Friday: Inspired by 'The Great Wave off Kangagawa' by the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, use the art skills from the previous art lesson to draw waves. We have uploaded a sheet of waves that you may wish to use as inspiration.

Use this board to share how you are keeping well in lockdown. We have really enjoyed keeping in touch with you all and reading all your kind messages of suppport to other members of Y5/6. Why not add a picture of things you have created or been up to at home! Keep positive and keep smiling!smiley
